A comprehensive and scholarly study

Fr. Rosini has, perhaps for the first time, provided a complete, well-balanced exposition of Scotus on Our Lady, with all the many inter-connections between the mystery of Mary and the whole of theology, illustrating plainly how the subtle resolution of the most complex of theological questions was not something achieved prior to any consideration of Mary, but exactly to the contrary: by meditating “in the spirit of prayer and devotion” (St. Francis of Assisi) on the Blessed and Immaculate Virgin in the mystery of Christ and the Church (Lumen Gentium, ch. 8, title).

Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, FI – Translator,
from the book's
Presentation

"Finally, an in-depth study of mariology from a Franciscan, scotistic perspective in English! In the Mariology of Blessed John Duns ScotusFr. Rosini starts from above—from the divine counsels that first predestined Christ and His Immaculate Mother to glory in an absolute manner (sin or no sin)—and then proceeds to unveil the profound truths about Mary in her relation to Christ, herself and to us. An intellectually demanding treatise, to be sure, but guaranteed to deepen one’s knowledge and love for His and our Immaculate Mother."

Fr. Maximilian Mary Dean, FI – Author of A Primer on the Absolute Primacy of Christ

"The invaluable insights of the genial and saintly John Duns Scotus must be renewed in our own day, especially in light of their extraordinarily positive mariological ramifications. The absolute predestination of Mary juxtaposed with the Incarnation constitutes a “mariological Copernican revolution,” and demands the attention of every serious student and professor of mariology."

Dr. Mark Miravalle, Professor of Mariology, Franciscan University of Steubenville

"We salute the Mariological achievement of Fr. Rosini. He has, perhaps for the first time, provided a complete, well-balanced exposition of Scotus on Our Lady, with all the many inter-connections between the mystery of Mary and the whole of theology, illustrating plainly how the subtle resolution of the most complex of theological questions was not something achieved prior to any consideration of Mary, but exactly to the contrary: by meditating “in the spirit of prayer and devotion” on the Blessed-Immaculate Virgin in the mystery of Christ and the Church."

Mariology of Blessed John Duns Scotus

Much more difficult reading than I anticipated.

Valuable Book

1 - Well organized. Provides the themes in a usable manner. 2 - Easily understandable (I admit there are a few complex ideas). Examples: a) English is at an appropriate level for average readers, b) Provides English translations of Latin phrases, and c) provides definitions for terms used. 3 - Met the need for a really in depth look at Mary's role in our lives. I did not know in any detail the Franciscan understanding of the need for the Incarnation. However, I was always sympathetic to it since a few years after my Baptism in 2001 (age 49) I realized that Eden (Earthly Paradise) was inferior to the New Jerusalem (Heavenly City). There always had to be a way in God's plan for man to be raised up to the place that God wished man to be. This book provided the framework to study and understand this issue. I highly recommend this book. Deacon Gesualdo Schneider
